It’s been a little while since our last update. A lot has happened. Here’s our rundown of Housing and Urban Issues News for Winnipeg in the month of November.
Public Health Info: Manitoba at CODE RED for COVID pandemic
We would like to remind our supporters and everyone else that Manitoba has been under Code Red restrictions since Nov. 12th. YIMBY Winnipeg has taken the COVID crisis very seriously, cancelling an in-person community event scheduled for April 6th of this year and keeping our meetings entirely virtual since March.
We reiterate to our supporters the importance of physical distancing and complying with all public health orders. Please see the Manitoba Pandemic Response System and additional restrictions for Winnipeg.
Remember to follow the fundamentals
- Wash or sanitize your hands
- Stay home when possible
- Wear a mask & physically distance (2 metres or 6 feet) when you can’t
- Limit prolonged contact to members of your household
- Keep track of all contacts
If everyone does their part, we can get safe and flatten the curve.
Infill Strategy Development Info events

The City of Winnipeg’s long awaited infill strategy is, potentially, set for adoption by Council in Spring 2021. We’ve closely followed the Residential Infill Strategy since our group formed in February 2019.
The Social Planning Council of Winnipeg is hosting three events on the Infill Strategy. They’re set to talk about infill and its benefits with community activists and city staff. They have a series of speakers on transit, active transit, disabilities, housing and more.
The event dates are as follows:
- Tuesday, Nov 17th, 2020 at 5:30 pm
- Wednesday, Nov 25th, 2020 at 7:00 pm
- Wednesday, Dec 2nd, 2020 at 5:30 pm
To register for one, two or all three events, please contact info@spcw.mb.ca.
After registering, a confirmation email containing information about how to join this virtual event will be sent to the registered email.
Transportation Master Plan: 2050 (TMP2050)
The City of Winnipeg is also working on its Transportation Master Plan for the next 30 years. Public engagement for the TMP2050 is underway.
Public engagement goals for this project are to:
- Gather Winnipeggers’ opinions, perceptions, experiences and desires for the City’s transportation network.
- Use this information to help identify the current state and future goals of transportation in Winnipeg.
- Communicate how public input was used to help shape TMP2050.
- Help Winnipeggers understand the resulting strategies within TMP2050. Ensure Winnipeggers recognize the need to balance the needs of many types of road users.
You can fill out this online survey until Dec. 11th.
