Fun Urbanist Meet: Parking!

We'll watch a 14 minute video and chat about it and anything else that comes up. Feel free to invite anyone else you know who's interested. It's sorta like Zoom or Google Meet, accept it creates plays videos directly from its own server so video quality is not dependent on any one user's bandwidth. Hyperbeam may ask for permissions to access your computer speaker/microphone/camera. Speaker/microphone access will be need to take part in this event. The Winnipeg We Want (Urban Panel)

About this event Central Theme: The Winnipeg we want. Covers urban affairs and issues such as housing, zoning, land-use and related topics. Presenters (20 minutes max each): Bike Winnipeg, Manitoba Non-Profit Housing Association, YIMBY Winnipeg (Yes In My Back Yard), and Functional Transit Winnipeg. October YIMBY Winnipeg Urbanist Hangout

Come join us Wednesday, October 18th at 7 PM for our monthly urbanist hangout! Urbanist hangouts are a great way to talk to likeminded folks on urban issues in a relaxed, casual setting. This hangout is at The Forks. Plan, if space is permitting, is to meet near the former Sydney's at the upper floor of at The Forks Market (see image). If not, we may go to the outside area by The Forks Market. Progress on smart growth and land-use Now is an exciting time for the movement for more homes and better land-use. The federal government is motivating cities to take real steps to create more new homes, including multi-family rental, with their Housing Accelerator Fund. Serious city governments are now taking steps to remove unnecessary bureaucratic barriers to homes and end exclusionary zoning. The City of Winnipeg is in the early stages of a zoning by-law review. This is part of the City's application to the Housing Accelerator Fund. Winnipeg hired Clarion Associates to conduct an initial review and assessment of the the Zoning Bylaw. Bold Zoning Reform needed to unlock tens of millions in federal funds Now is an exciting time for the movement for more homes and better land-use. The City's Housing Accelerator Fund is moving forward and the Mayor of Winnipeg has received a letter from the federal Housing Minister regarding Winnipeg's application. Bold zoning reform that permits more infill homes and smarter growth is needed to unlock dozens of millions of dollars in federal funds for Winnipeg! Let's go and get it done.
