The City of Winnipeg is hosting a chance for public input on zoning changes to allow MORE HOMES. These include:
- allowing four homes (fourplexes) by right on residential lots, subject to dimensional standards
- allowing four-storey multi-family buildings within 800 metres of high frequency transit.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Winnipeg. It would mean allowing more homes, mixed-use density, enabling smarter growth, and ending exclusionary zoning in our city.
Opponents of more homes and smarter growth are mobilizing. They’ll be at all the public info sessions.
We need to show the City that we SUPPORT more homes and smarter growth!

The bylaw changes, while a big step in the right direction, do still contain some worrying restrictions. These include:
- Hefty lot coverage maximums in R1 zoning districts ranging from 42.5% to 57.5%.
- Bans on triplexes and fourplexes without a driveway on streets with gravel back lanes.
- One off-street parking space required per unit. Parking minimums have a big effect on the cost of homes & result in less homes being built than otherwise.
