Housing Accelerator Fund

Winnipeg receives $122 million in federal funds for housing

In response to the agreement-in-principle to reform zoning under the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF), Winnipeg is receiving $122 million in funds from the federal government to remove barriers to building needed housing faster. This funding should fast track 3,166 homes over three years and aims to help spur the construction of over 15,000 new homes over the next decade. Funding will support various initiatives:

  • Rapid zoning bylaw amendments
  • Amendments to local area plans
  • Incentive programs promoting multi-family housing downtown and on major corridors
  • Creating a land enhancement office
  • Establishing a City of Winnipeg concierge for affordable housing
  • Infrastructure supports to increase residential construction
  • Digitizing and accelerating development approvals and permitting
