Housing Accelerator Fund Agreement-in-Principle on reform reached
November 23, 2023
The City of Winnipeg approved changes to their Housing Accelerator Fund application along the lines of those requested by the feds on Nov. 23, 2023. This represents an agreement-in-principle to zoning and land-use reforms that would speed up the building of new homes. These changes include:
- Legalizing four homes per residential lot city-wide by-right
- Legalizing four-storey builds by-right within 800 metres of frequent transit corridors
- Zoning reforms to ensure by-right residential redevelopment at mall sites and commercial corridors
These agreed-to-in-principle changes will still have to be enshrined through bylaw amendments. The rapid bylaw amendment process will be ongoing from 2024-2025, with public consultations and a formal public hearing before the amendments are implemented, which is anticipated to occur in spring 2025.
